The Dogs Behind the Greeting Cards 🐾 (From the streets to your hands)

The Dogs Behind the Greeting Cards 🐾 (From the streets to your hands)

Three real dogs. Three everyday moments. Three designs that became something more.

There’s a quiet kind of magic in the streets of Little Italy in San Diego.

If you slow down enough, you’ll see it everywhere — in the way dogs sit beside their humans, watch the world go by, or greet you like you’ve known each other forever.

A lot of my designs don’t start at my desk. They start outside… on walks, errands, or moments I almost miss.

These three cards all came from real dogs I’ve seen right here in the neighborhood.

“I saved you a seat”

Greeting card illustration of a tan dog sitting on a blue bench with a leash and the words “I saved you a seat.”

This is Honey.

She’s the beloved companion to her human, and together they live on the streets.

If you spend any time in Little Italy, you might recognize her.
She’s a regular at a popular breakfast spot — always nearby, always present.

Honey sits patiently, like she knows exactly what she’s doing.
Saving a seat for her daddy…
for a familiar local walking by…
or even just a stranger passing through town.

There’s something incredibly grounding about her presence.

No rush. No expectation. Just loyalty, patience, and quiet connection.

This moment stayed with me.

And it became the “I saved you a seat” card —
a simple message, inspired by a dog who reminds us what it means to hold space for someone.

Perfect for:
Friendship, thinking of you, support during hard times, letting someone know they’re not alone.

“Keep on Rollin’”

Hand-illustrated greeting card featuring a happy brown cartoon dog wearing a blue mobility wheelchair harness with two back wheels, smiling with tongue out under the words “Keep on Rollin’.” The design conveys encouragement, resilience, and positivity.

There’s a little Frenchie, Hank, I see around downtown quite often. He’s about 7 years old and uses a wheelchair because of a back injury.

But if you didn’t know that — you’d just see joy.

Pure, unstoppable joy.

He rolls down the sidewalk like he owns it, ears up, tongue out, completely living his best life.

No hesitation. No sadness. Just movement and happiness.

That kind of spirit is contagious.

And I knew right away — that needed to be a card.

Perfect for:
Encouragement, recovery, motivation, cheering someone on, life transitions

“Popped up to say Hi”

Illustrated greeting card of a dog popping up over a wall with the text “Popped up to say hi”

This one makes me smile every single time.

There’s a neighborhood dog who pops up just enough to peek over a wall and greet anyone walking by.

No barking. No chaos. Just a quiet little “hi” as you pass through the street.

It’s such a small moment — but it’s one of those things that makes a place feel like home.

And that’s exactly what I wanted this card to capture.

Perfect for:
Saying hello, just because, checking in, lighthearted connection, everyday moments.

Closing:

All three of these dogs are from the same neighborhood. The same streets I walk every day.

They remind me that inspiration isn’t something you have to chase — sometimes it’s just sitting beside you…
rolling past you…
or popping up to say hi.

These aren’t just illustrations.

They’re real moments. Real dogs. Real stories.

Turned into something you can hold, send, and share. 🐾

If you’ve ever met a pet that stuck with you, you already understand the heart behind JC Pet Designs.

And if you ever see me walking around — just know I might be turning your pet into my next card 🐾
